Basel to Verona -- Trial by Traffic but a gem in the end

It didn't start out well.  We sat in traffic for almost an hour due to an accident on the way to Basel, not knowing how long it would be.  But we finally got going.  Driving always requires lots of attention, not like Canada where you can let your mind wander as you go.  Fortunately, we had "Serena" our GPS voice who served us well.
The weather was spectacular and spectacular scenes also awaited, though travel through long tunnels was stressful.  After entering Italy, the drive is like being on the 401 only more industrial and busier.

After 9 hours of driving we finally entered Verona.  Went for a walk and here are some of the scenes.

Huge sets sit outside the amphitheatre in preparation for the evening opera.  The streets and piazzas are paved with marble.

Aside from the outdoor opera, Verona is the setting for Romeo and Juliet.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks.  Tis the East and fair Juliet is the sun.
